The ad I chose to present to the class was "The Force: Volkswagen Commercial". I first saw this commercial when I was watching the Superbowl 2 years ago, and I then saw it again many times after that on the internet. In this ad they were mainly selling the new Volkswagen but in a way they were also advertising for star-wars because of the darth vader costume the child was wearing. To me this ad is directed at people who love and have watched star-wars and to parents of small children. I think the main technique that was used to grab the viewers attention was of how cute the whole commercial was. for most of the commercial you see the little boy trying to use his powers but it never works until he tries on the car and gets scared. Which is why I think the ad was so successful, cute sells! especially to woman who are most targeted in these kind of ads. I personally don't think there could be any improvement for viral ads. with tv, internet and social media I can't think how else these ads could be marketed any better than they are right now.
The ad that I thought was similar to mine was the Evian "Roller Babies" commercial. I think this was similar to my ad because they are both "cute" and that's what caught people's attention. The difference between these two commercials though is that this commercial is advertising that if you drink their water that you'll feel young hence why they used babies. Out of all the ad's shown in class I think the Coca Cola ad was the funniest because they were showing videos that were taken from security cameras and you caught people doing what they wouldn't normally do if they had know there was a camera recording them. In my opinion I believe that the Dove ad was the scariest. It was scary in the sense that that is what beauty in the media has come to. It's showing that the models you see in magazines don't even look like that in real life. I also think this ad was the most effective because it made Dove seem like it's not like the other company's who Photoshop the heck out of their models- they are trying to tell us that they're different. And for that reason a lot of women believe them and would pick them over another brand.
Excellent examples!
