News Bias

Murdered man suffered chopping wounds to the head and neck, Toronto police reveal Toronto man murdered in ‘over-the-top personal’ attack

“He called me mum,” aunt says in appealing for help in solving homicide of George Fawell

“No one deserves to be dumped like garbage,” says victim’s aunt

The crime story I chose to follow was the killing of George Fawell. George was stabbed multiple times in the chest and chopped on his head area. the first article I read was the the start and the title was:
"“He called me mum,” aunt says in appealing for help in solving homicide of George Fawell" This article mentioned how he wasn't in any gangs, and was starting to better his life. basically this whole article was focused on his family life, and how he was a good man. The second article I read was from the metro and the title was: "Toronto man murdered in ‘over-the-top personal’attack". This article like the first one, played a lot on emotion and family. The third one I read was called: "Murdered man suffered chopping wounds to the head and neck, Toronto police reveal." Out of the 4, this article seems the most unbiased. though it does mention a little bit about his family it focuses more on facts.

Analysis of a Clothing

For this blog post I decided to analyze this Abercrombie & Fitch advertisement.

In this photo you see a good looking guy with no shirt on grabbing some girl's butt. This ad seems to be directed to young women who might find this guy attractive. it also seems to be directed to young men, implying that if they wear this brand they'll have a nice body and get all the girls. Because of that this ad seems to be really effective. I looked at their site & their products are directed at young men and women with a laid back style.

As you can see all of their ads seems to be of a sexual nature, which I guess benefits them highly.

Brand Names

1. Brand name thing I own or would like to own:

  • Iphone

2. Positive things people might assume about me if I had it or wore it:

  • That I have money
  • I'm cooler
  • more advanced in technology

3. Negative things people might assume about me if I had it/ wore it:

  • I'm materialistic
  • I think I'm better than people who don't have one

4. How I know/why I think people would assume these things about me:

  • Because I've assumed that about other people

The brand name I own is a very recognizable brand it's apple!
People can easily tell what the brand is by their signature apple logo that they have on all of their products. since the name of the brand is apple the logo fully speaks for the brand name without any words. The prominence of the brand name says the the person who has it has money, or thinks they're the best. I think teens like brand names so much because it's a way for them to have  status. like for example, if you see all the "cool" or "popular" people wearing dolce and gabbana you're going to want to wear it too. Another reason why teens like brand names is because they like to show off. I think having a good personality will help peoples perception on us. Wearing and using products can only do so much.
